One such Mahavir has become Maharishi Valmiki. Maharishi Valmiki is also revered as a learned scholar. Valmiki ji has written an epic poem related to the life of Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram.

But very few people would probably know that Valmiki ji had done penance for many years by sitting on the Marashili mountain located in Namkum, Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. Valmiki ji spent his long time on this mountain and here he also made a pond for his daily needs.

How did the mountain get its name Marashili

There is also a beautiful temple of Lord Shiva on top of this mountain. The priest of the temple had a special conversation with News18 Local telling the story here and said that Valmiki ji came here and chose this mountain for his meditation. He was asked to chant Ram-Ram, 24 hours and several days passed while chanting Ram Ram and he had no sense of humor and started chanting Mara Mara instead of Ram. That’s why the name of this mountain also got Marashili.

No one could measure the depth of the pond

There is a beautiful water tank built on the top of this mountain, the special thing about the water tank is that it never dries up for years, no matter how hot the summer is. Along with this, the specialty of this pond is that the pond is so deep that no one has been able to measure it till date.

There is also an anecdote related to this, the priest of the temple, Shiv Shambhu, says, I have seen with my own eyes that a boy who came here to commit suicide jumped inside the pond 10 to 12 times but despite that he could not drown here. Later he died by going down the mountain.

Shiv Shambhu, the priest of the temple tells the footprints of Mata Durga, it is said that here, being pleased with Valmiki ji, Mata Durga gave him a direct darshan. That’s why a footprint of Mata Durga is present here. Along with this, many people come here for meditation and meditation. Because the peace and beauty here removes all the tension and gives peace to the mind.

Shashank, who came to visit here, says that as soon as he sets foot in this mountain, his mind becomes elated. There is so much joy that it is impossible not only to describe in words, it is just a matter of feeling.
